Stretch Marks

Oh, stretch marks. They often appear when we are going through puberty and experience growth spurts, but they continue to make an appearance as we grow up. Many clients come to us with concerns over their stretch marks and inquiring if there is anything we can do to help.

WHAT ARE STRETCH MARKS?

A stretch mark is a type of scar that develops when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. The abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks appear. They can appear pale, almost translucent, or even thick, red and purple. The way they look varies person-to-person and can range from being translucent to pale silver, or even red or purple. They can also appear thin or thick.

WHO GETS THEM?
Not everyone gets stretch marks. A lot of the reason people do is because of genetics – if your parents have them, then you are more likely to develop them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them and are completely normal, but this doesn’t change the fact they are a frustrating issue for many individuals.

WHEN THEY ARE MORE LIKELY TO APPEAR:

If you are prone to stretch marks, then you are most likely to get them:
During Puberty
• With A Growth Spurt
• Pregnancy
• Rapid Weight Loss Or Gain
• Weight Training & Muscle Growth
