Rosacea

Like all skin conditions, Rosacea can affect anyone. It can be a life-long struggle, or appear out of nowhere with no history. It is a frustrating flushing across the face and cheeks, creating us to be self conscious and uncomfortable and producing red and rough skin.

WHAT IS ROSACEA?

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that causes reddened skin and a rash, usually on the nose and cheeks and can also cause eye problems. The symptoms often come and go, with many clients reporting that certain factors, such as spending time in the sun or experiencing emotional stress, exacerbate the condition.

While there is no cure for rosacea, we do have treatments to keep it under control. The choice of treatment will depend on the symptoms, and usually includes a combination of Medical-Grade skincare products and services.

WHO IS AFFECTED BY Rosacea?
Anyone can experience rosacea, but it is most common among middle-aged and older women. It is seen in people with fair skin, but can go undiagnosed in darker skinned people because skin tone can mask facial redness.

A CLOSER LOOK:

Those who experience rosacea may only experience some of the symptoms – as severity and appearance varies from person-to-person. Considered a chronic condition, rosacea does cycle between flare-ups and remission.

SYMPTOMS

Facial Redness: In the beginning, flushing or blushing may be mild, but over-time may persist for longer periods of time. It can be accompanied by tingling or a sense of burning, plus your skin may turn rough and flakey.

Rash Or Bumps: The flushing and redness can develop into red or pus-filled bumps like pimples. Because of this individuals often assume they have acne instead of Rosacea.

Blood Vessels: Across your cheeks and nose you may notice thin red lines. These are more visible when you have a fairer skin tone.

Thickening Skin: Your skin may thicken, especially on the nose, giving you an enlarged or even bulbous appearance. This is a more severe symptom and mostly affects men.

Eye Irritation: This is called ocular rosacea and your eyes become sore, red, itchy, watery, or dry. They may feel gritty or as if there is something in them, such as an eyelash. The eyelids may swell and become red at the base of the eyelashes.

WHAT TRIGGERS ROSACEA?

Unlike acne which is often caused by internal factors, Rosacea is triggered by external factors. Here are some reasons why you may experience fare-ups:

  • Sun Exposure

  • Increased Stress
  • Hot Or Cold Weather Conditions
  • Alcohol Consumption
  • Spicy Foods
  • Skin / Hair Care Products
  • Certain Medications
  • Exercise

Many clients who experience rosacea find the condition to be quite vexing as it is a long-term and incurable issue. With proper products for your skin and the right treatments, you can minimize your rosacea and stop flare-ups.
